Hey, I’m Kathleen, the founder and CEO of the Virtual Spell, a boutique Virtual Assisting agency that helps small to medium sized businesses with their to do list.
I’m not normally the person to share a lot about myself, especially online. I’m usually the person behind the scenes, BUT, I’m setting all that aside to share about myself so I can connect with you.
Take a trip back with me to 2017…
I had just returned home from living abroad in Scotland to start a new job. I had come back to Vancouver earlier than I intended because of this new role. Unfortunately, I soon realized the job wasn't going to be a good fit. As well, I had a romantic relationship come to a rough end. To say I was depressed and lost was an understatement.
I didn’t know it at the time, but I was in the middle of my first Saturn Return. Every 27-29 years of our lives, we all go through a period that challenges everything we thought we knew, wanted and worked for. It’s messy and painful, but it helps us grow. Mine led me to take more control over my life and career.
It took me several years of experimenting with travel blogging, photography, and finally becoming a virtual assistant. From all the corporate experience I had (reluctantly) acquired, I knew I had skills that could help businesses that I found interesting. In 2020 before the pandemic began, the Virtual Spell was born! Since then, I have absolutely loved learning about various businesses, problem solving, and helping my clients scale and get their time and sanity back. I am so grateful for everything. I can’t wait to work with you!

I’m often known as the travel girl having travelled to amazing places such as Morocco, South America, and others. It’s been three years since I took an international trip (thanks COVID!). I am also a dog lover, a lifelong equestrian who has wanted a horse since I was five years old, and I’m a spin class fanatic. I am obsessed with astrology (I’m an Aries Sun, Scorpio Moon & Rising), and the enneagram (I’m a type 1 with a wing 2). I love all things woo woo such as breathwork. I mean who names their business after magic and doesn’t like this stuff?
More About the Biz & My Signature VA Style
The name “The Virtual Spell” came from my love of magic inspired by Harry Potter, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and the old school British Show The Worst Witch. I also wanted to create magic for my clients with high level service and taking care of their tasks seamlessly. Cheesy, but true!
Many have described me as hard working, dedicated, and conscientious. I am the type of VA who doesn’t rigidly stay in the confines of tasks and leave it at that. I see the bigger picture, explore other options, and really see how I can be of assistance. Typically, my clients will give me a task and I run with it. Before completion, If relevant to the process, I provide updates and ask questions. As well, there are situations where I need to figure out how I’m going to complete tasks. I love the process of figuring it out! It’s the nerd in me. This can also explain why I love Star Trek. (I am a huge fan of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the movies remaking the original series!)
I love all the services I offer (more on that in a bit). But if I had to pick the top two it would be systems such as Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and setting up Zaps, which are integrating two platforms together. And finally, copywriting, as I enjoy capturing the voice and essence of my client’s business into words.
From Zero to Go
Since I started the Virtual Spell, I have helped many clients and counting. They have ranged from a bookkeeper, accountant, skincare brands, photographers, public relation expert, social media agency, community organizations, a live music & DJ agency, and more! Despite having vastly different businesses, all my clients have in common the need to focus on their zone of genius, to end being bogged down by tasks, grow into their role as a business owner/CEO, and have more mental space for high level thoughts and projects.
Some important milestones from then to now are jumping into The Virtual Spell full time and bringing on my first team member.
I am so honoured my clients decided to and continue to work with me as I’ve learnt so much from them. Everytime I work with a business, I take the trust and access with people’s businesses very seriously. I love when my client’s succeed and launch new things. I feel just as invested as they do!
